Queensland Roar

Yesterday I went to watch my first game of Australian football (soccer) at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. It was top of the league Queensland Roar v Melbourne Victory. It's very easy to slate the quality of the football in Australia, especially when you come from a country where the league is one of the best in the world, but it is well crap. It's about the standard of a bad Division One English team, which is the old Third Division. It's pretty much just kick and run and no one can cross.

Melbourne won 2-1

The stadium is nuts though. It holds 55,000 people and bigger than most Premiership stadiums. Apparently it's for the Rugby though. There were 21,000 at the game and the atmosphere is pretty quiet and polite. It's all very american though as there are KFC's, Dominoes pizza places etc throughout the stadium. The sportsmans choice of food....

Apparently the old Australian soccer league was disbanded 2 years ago and this new league was created because the standard of football was so bad...you can pretty much finish the rest of that sentence for yourself...
